The under-croft area does not only provide access from the loading bay into the Rail Gourmet storage and staff welfare areas of the station, but also houses mechanical plant associated with the ait conditioning of the Rail Gourmet space and plant associated with the operation of the freezer and chiller units used to store food and beverages. The existing mechanical plant is currently housed within timber louvres. Due to the lack of space currently available, the mechanical plant is double stacked within the louvred area which makes the units difficult to access for maintenance. The lack of free area around each of the units causes the plant to work inefficiently and has resulted in continuous failure of the equipment, resulting in the freezers and chillers repeatedly being shut down. Tit is proposed to create a larger plant area by installing a new louvred enclosure, with access doors, across the entrance to the under-croft area. This will allow the plant to be easily accessed for maintenance and provide sufficient free area for it to work efficiently.
