5, 7 Frith Street Westminster W1D 3JA

Cementitious rendering to two coal vaults, one beneath the pavement serving each of No. 5 and No. 6; Air handling condensers positioned within the front lower ground light well area; Introduction of fire lobbies at the entrances to a number of bedrooms. Some have been thoughtfully incorporated into existing partitions to create en-suite bathrooms, while others are separate, self contained additions in painted timber with fire-rated glazing. Several of these, together with other joinery elements such as fitted bookcases within modern fabric, have been designed in a style that could be described as Strawberry Hill Gothic a playful and imaginative interpretation of the Gothic style. These lobbies are required to meet Part B (fire) of the Building Regulations and are essential to the hotels ability to operate as a licensed premises; Air handling pipework concealed within cupboards, with ventilation grilles carefully integrated into ceilings and wall panelling; Air handling condensers located on the roof; Introduction of a new oriel window to the rear upper landing of No. 5; Removal of a partition between the front and rear rooms at ground floor level of No. 6, identified in the 1966 survey and shown on historic plans. This space is now used as the hotel reception; Installation of secondary glazing to selected windows, while retaining the existing windows elsewhere. (Linked to 26/05850/LBC)
