Grounds Of Shaw House Church Road Shaw Newbury
Lucombe oak AEL proposed works: crown lift to 2.5 metres to discourage children swinging and hanging from the lowest branches, and to carry out a crown reduction of 20% with branch length reduction of 2-2.5m. Current height is 15m and spread 17m. The proposed works would bring crown down to height of 13m and the spread to 15m. The tree is declining in health due to extensive basal and stem decay on the north side of the tree due in part to the ongoing presence of fruiting body pathogen, probably Meripilus giganteus. The tree is in a busy part of the Shaw House gardens and a path runs within the canopy of the tree. Lucombe oak AEZ proposed works: crown lift to 2.5 metres to discourage children swinging and hanging from the lowest branches, a children's play ground has just been built 10 metres away from the tree and it is foreseeable that they will swing from the lowest branches unless we crown lift them.
