The proposed development comprises the construction of a two-storey extension to the existing Sixth Form building at Teddington School. The extension has been designed to enhance the quality and functionality of the existing facility, providing additional teaching, independent study, and student support spaces. At ground floor level, the extension will provide a new dedicated Sixth Form entrance and reception area, improving access, safeguarding, and operational efficiency. The layout also includes additional internal space to support staff offices and student wellbeing provision, as well as reconfiguration of existing areas including expansion of the canteen and incorporation of the existing plant room within the building envelope. At first floor level, the extension will deliver a purpose-designed study area to support independent and group learning, addressing an identified shortfall in suitable study space within the current building. The design prioritises natural light, flexible layouts, and a high-quality internal environment appropriate for sixth form students. Externally, associated works include alterations to hard and soft landscaping, replacement of existing surfacing with permeable paving, and minor boundary treatments to define the Sixth Form area. The development also includes the enlargement of the existing soakaway to accommodate additional surface water runoff, in accordance with sustainable drainage principles. The proposal has been designed to integrate with the scale, form, and materiality of the existing building and will retain the established two-storey height and flat roof design. The development does not result in an increase in student capacity and there is no change of use. The building will continue to operate within its existing educational use (Use Class F1).
