8 Oakley Road Islington

Proposed Tree Works and Justification Following an inspection of the rear gardens at 6 and 8 Oakley Road, it was found that vigorous growth of Russian vine (Fallopia baldschuanica) and ivy is affecting the health and condition of the existing trees. No. 6 Oakley Road Russian vine appears to have grown from No. 6 and spread into the neighbouring property at No. 8. The climber has formed a substantial mass within the tree canopy, obscuring the condition of the tree. Proposed works: Carefully remove the Russian vine from within the tree canopy where practicable, taking care to minimise damage to the tree. Cut the Russian vine back to ground level and remove as much growth as practicable to prevent further encroachment. Justification: The Russian vine is a vigorous climber that is overwhelming the tree canopy. Its removal will reduce excessive loading, improve the tree's health and structural condition, and prevent further suppression of the tree. No. 8 Oakley Road The lime tree is heavily infested with both Russian vine and ivy, which are progressively smothering and constricting the tree. Proposed works: Remove the Russian vine and ivy from the lime tree where practicable, avoiding unnecessary damage to the tree. Cut both climbers back to ground level to prevent continued growth into the canopy. Justification: The removal of these invasive climbers is necessary to prevent further suppression and strangulation of the lime tree, improving its long-term health, vitality and structural integrity.
