Removal of T1 Common Yew - Fell to ground level and remove (and replace) T1 is a large, mature, multi-stemmed female yew situated immediately adjacent to the property???s driveway, principal dwelling entrance and vehicle parking area. To be replaced with a suitable specimen appropriate to the constrained location. It is presently proposed to plant a male Irish yew which will retain the evergreen character and presence of a yew whilst having a substantially narrower growth habit without the heavy annual production of fruit associated with the existing female tree. The yew is a substantial mature specimen which has significantly outgrown the very restricted position. The base of the tree occupies a small planting area surrounded by hardstanding, immediately adjacent to the garage and the property???s principal entrance and parking area. Its mature crown is now disproportionately large for this location and extends substantially over the area used for pedestrian access. As a mature female yew, the tree also produces a very substantial annual crop of fleshy red arils. These fall directly onto vehicles parked in their normal positions on the driveway and onto the surrounding hardstanding. The soft fruit bursts and adheres firmly to the floor, to vehicle paintwork and glass and can be hard to remove. Photos are provided to show its adhesion to vehicles. Fruit is crushed beneath vehicles and under foot and is consequently taken into the dwelling. This is a recurring seasonal problem arising directly from the combination of the tree???s size, sex and position over the principal access area, rather than ordinary leaf fall or routine garden maintenance. The household has a dog which uses this area. Yew foliage and seeds contain toxic compounds. While this is not the principal justification for removal, the deposition of fruit and seeds in an area routinely accessible to a domestic animal is an added consequence of the tree???s location. The tree is not being proposed for r...
