Eastside is a leading youth arts charity that empowers young people aged 5-25 years facing the most serious disadvantage across Hackney, London and the UK. In 2023/24 Eastside delivered 2420 creative workshops empowering 62,999 young people across the UK. We have owned and occupied our building on the Hackney Road for 20 years and have been delivering services to young people for over 30 years. Eastside is fortunate to have received a grant from Hackney Council under the Affordable Workspace Grant scheme to modernise our building and create more workspace within. Alongside this, Eastside wishes to modernise and improve the external side and front aspects of our building and we therefore through this planning application propose to do the following: 1. Add a new Fascia Sign (Building Number) to the middle elevation (between the front and side elevations) using more modern materials and font to meet company brand guidelines. 2. Add an illuminated new Fascia Sign (Company Name) lit from above applied to the front elevation using more modern materials and font to meet company brand guidelines. 3. Add an illuminated Projection sign to the front elevation with our name and logo combined within it to meet company brand guidelines. 4. Add a small welcome sign to the side elevation of our building to improve accessibility and improve way finding. 5. Repair areas of damaged brickwork and repaint the front and side elevations of the building with a soft blue colour replacing the outdated existing purple colour. 6. Replace Eastside front doors - Due to the excessive height of the building's front doors and their weight, they have warped and become rotten over time. We therefore need to remove these doors and install smaller and lighter doors to ensure long term security and sustainability. The combination of the above improvements along with the interior improvements Eastside is delivering, will create a much more attractive building on the Hackney Road befitting of the highest quality work that Eastside delivers annually to its many thousands of young beneficiaries across Hackney, London and the UK. We are thankful to the planning team for its swift appraisal of our planning application as we are working with Hackney council to deliver this project to meet their approaching funding deadlines (end of March 2025).
